Brain Strain
Date: September 2025
Audience: Word nerds
Responsibilities: Visual design, development, JavaScript coding
Tools: Articulate Storyline 360, Claude AI (helped generate JS)
Synopsis: I challenged myself to replicate The New York Times' "Spelling Bee" game in Storyline. While I simplified several elements (and found it was not especially scalable in terms of easily swapping out this set of letters for another), I am proud of the various effects I was able to achieve using triggers, variables, and a bit of JavaScript.
Key Features:
The ability to add one letter at a time to a text entry field using multiple buttons
Customized responses to any word a user enters based on what they entered
A responsive score tracker in the top right of the screen that changes as users continue to find new words
The experience uses a single slide!
